Hello, I’m Boot Chic Mom. I’m an Arab American, a mother of two, and an active duty US military officer.
I have to be honest, writing a blog is not something I ever thought I would do. Up until a few months ago, I had only followed a few food and parenting blogs. Plus, as a side-effect of a decade and a half in the military, I’ve been conditioned to view social media with wariness and suspicion. So needless to say, this is unchartered territory for me.
So why start a blog then? I realized that I have a very unique perspective because of my background and experiences that others may find interesting, valuable, or maybe just plain entertaining. I struggled through most of my twenties with trying to identify whether I was Arab or American and finally realized I didn’t have to choose. I’m a hybrid of all great things I’ve personally handpicked that I love about both Middle Eastern and American culture and have incorporated them into, well, Me.
“Boots By Day, Heels By Night” truly speaks to me. I love what I do as an officer in the military, however being a Soldier is not my entire existence. Similar to the Arab/American struggle, came the identity crisis in the military. Was I to forgo my femininity to be “one of the guys,” or do I force military culture to accept strong feminine women into their testosterone driven society?
My life is a combination of cultures, both from a world view and from within the military subculture and I created this blog to try to show a perspective that very few others experience and fewer have written about. I hope you enjoy reading my blog as much as I enjoy sharing these tidbits from my life.
